Lent 2017: info and some tools for reflection

Lent begins Wed 1st March...

Our worship theme over the Sundays of Lent is: ‘Being God’s people’
Wk 1/ the Beatitudes
Wk 2/ the ‘Law’ and the law of love
Wk 3/ our inner life
Wk 4/ community living
Wk 5/ our faith foundations
thereafter, we move to Palm Sunday and into Holy Week.
Over these weeks, we will also be learning 2 new hymns:
‘Tree of life and awesome mystery’ and
What wondrous love is this’
as well as a short one verse song that will be used in our prayers for others ‘Jesu, tawa pano’ – Jesus, we are here

Instead of a discussion group this year, something a little different –
both daily and weekly tools for prayer and reflection...
Remember: these are resources to be drawn upon as you wish,
they are tools, not masters. If you miss a day here or there, don't be too hard on yourself,
better to engage as you can than not at all.
With that, here are the Lent activities:
Daily Lent Challenge – 40 Acts:
Online: at www.40acts.org.uk where you can sign up to receive a daily reflection and challenge...
Or paper copy: if you prefer not to use the internet, why not try this year’s
Christian Aid daily Lent discipline? Copies are available in the vestibule to take away.
Also available in child-friendly format for families.
and...
Weekly prayer and breakfast:
Join Nikki at the church over the Saturday mornings of Lent at 9.30,
for a short time of quiet prayer, followed by breakfast in the Abington Store.

We will also be offering a ‘Prayer Tree’ over Lent:
if you would like prayer – for yourself, for others, and for particular situations,
write them down with the materials provided by the tree beside the pulpit.
To preserve anonymity, you might like to just write ‘for X who is ill’ or
‘for me, struggling with loss/ etc’. Interact with this resource as you feel led.
These requests will be prayed for by those meeting on the Saturday mornings of Lent.
